Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, candidate for governor in the March 18 election in Kano State on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that he will not be intimidated by the appeal contesting his victory before the tribunal.
On Wednesday, the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sided with the APC and removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after declaring the APC the victor of the election.
A certificate of return was provided to Gawuna and a certificate of return presented to Yusuf was revoked per the panel’s decision.
The court ruled that 165,663 ballots were illegitimate because they were not properly stamped or signed, and those votes were subtracted from Yusuf’s total.
I am grateful to Allah for our victory in the Kano State election, which was upheld by the court today (Wednesday),” Gawuna said in an interview with BBC Hausa, reacting on the tribunal verdict. I praise Him for His plan, which led Him to select us as leaders. I appreciate the public’s and our lawyers’ prayers and support as well.
He mentioned how the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was named the winner of the election at first, but that they later challenged the results in court because they believed that Allah had already chosen the decision.
Gawuna asserted that if one accepts that nothing occurs apart from Allah’s will, then they will never worry or treat government as a life-or-death situation.
He claims that no matter what happens, it will be for the best, so they are not scared or intimidated. There are no blunders in Allah’s sight.
