A Super Eagles star becomes sick with food illness just days before facing Côte d’Ivoire

Bright Osayi-Samuel, a fullback for the Super Eagles, has come clean about getting food poisoning earlier this week.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations team from Nigeria will face Côte d’Ivoire in their second Group A match the following day.

Head coach Jose Peseiro started star Ola Aina in the 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea, while Osayi-Samuel started on the bench.

But in the second half of the match, when the Eagles were chasing a second goal, Osayi-Samuel came on for Aina.

The Fenerbahce star was expected to make his entire AFCON debut on Thursday against the Ivorians. His availability is now questionable, though, due to his weakness brought on by food poisoning.

Food poisoning hit me hard. Osayi-Samuel assures reporters that she would be alright despite feeling a bit weak today.
