Having been accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his neighbor’s 3-year-old daughter, an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court ordered 40-year-old Abdulai Lawal to the Kirikiri jail facility on Thursday, August 3.
Olawunmi Osinbajo, the state’s prosecutor, had previously told the court that the crime was perpetrated by Lawal on July 25 in the Owutu neighborhood of the “Agric” neighborhood of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to Osinbajo, the accused allegedly defiled a young girl while she was playing in the sand outside the residence.
She continued by saying that the girl emerged from Lawal’s room with blood marks on her leg and clothes as her mother went searching for her daughter and screaming out her name in shrieks.
Osinbajo said Lawa was arrested after the mother reported the incident to authorities.
Lawal’s crime, according to the prosecution, was illegal under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).
A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, the presiding chief magistrate, did not take the accused’s plea but instead sent the case file to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review.
Olagbegi-Adelabu postponed the matter until September 14, 2023, to be mentioned, and also ordered that the defendant be remanded in jail custody pending the advice.
