Destiny Benjamin, 23, was reported dead four days after undergoing Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) hip surgery at Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Lagos.
Dr. Ogbe Omoruyi, the owner of Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, confirmed the development but denied that the lady died in the hospital during the surgery.
Omoruyi told Vanguard that the deceased had the surgery on March 8 and had complained of difficulty breathing before being referred to the Genesis Specialists Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos, where she died.
Omoruyi, who is also a plastic surgeon, added that the deceased was 23 years old, not 20.
He “According to what she wrote on documents, she is a 23-year-old girl.” She had surgery and was fine afterward; her surgery went well.
“I have a case note that I can show you to prove that everything was fine.”
“However, after a few days, she was having trouble breathing.” We put her on oxygen and stabilized her before referring her to an intensive care unit, which is only 10 minutes away from our facility.
“Unfortunately, as we all know, surgery comes with its own set of risks, and if you ask any professional doctor or surgeon who is familiar with life consumptions and tractions, it is very easy to think she could have fat embolism or clot embolism, but she had difficulty breathing.”
“A very An important investigation was carried out. The procedure is known as a CT Pulmonary Angiogram. This is capable of detecting any clots in the pulmonary system.
“The test was performed at the facility to which she was referred. When I was informed and the results were shown to me, it was stated that she did not have an embolism.
“After her surgery, her cousin, Sunset, was with her. They went around because they were in a group. She came here to see her, and two days later they took pictures together while walking around the clinic compound.
“I just wanted to let you know that she is fine after the surgery.”
“However, or unfortunately, an autopsy has not been performed; I’m not sure if the family will consent to that.”
In contrast to social media reports, Ogbe stated that while the medical clinic recorded five deaths in a year, only two deaths occurred in the clinic between 2018 and 2021.
“This can be verified with the Local Government because all local governments have primary health care centers where practitioners provide death toll reports,” he said.
“So we only have two recorded deaths.”
When contacted, SP Benjamin Hundeyin of the Lagos Police Command stated, “To the best of my knowledge, I am not aware of the incident.”
“The deceased’s family has not reported to the police authorities.”
