Following a protest by commercial bus drivers a few days ago, Musiliu Akinsaya, also known as Mc Oluomo, the chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Association, has banned the collection of illegal taxes levied by agberos in some areas of the state.
According to FIJ, he was intervening in a dispute between highway tax collectors who target transporters in the state and commercial drivers.
a driver reported to the media;
“Mc Oluomo informed us Thursday afternoon that no driver from Oshodi to Tollgate must be forced to pay illegal agbero taxes any longer when we met with him at the state council.
“We are only allowed to purchase two tickets per day, and then we
will only cover the costs of loading.
The typical ticket price, as approved by the management of the Lagos State Park, is N800.
He claimed that the additional taxes levied at Agbado Ijaiye and Iyana Ipaja were no longer valid. Either location where we purchase our daily tickets—Oshodi or Tollgate—will be accepted.
“After that, we’ll purchase the N500 council ticket and security booking.”
The driver also mentioned that MC Oluomo had declared that he and his coworkers would no longer be responsible for paying for tickets on Saturdays and Sundays. He stated:
“Mc Oluomo has ordered that no driver working on the weekends be required to purchase a ticket on Saturdays or Sundays.
Only starting on Monday, the union should require us to purchase tickets.
until Friday. We should be allowed to bring something back to our families.
The driver, who also disclosed that MC Oluomo gave N1 million to those hurt during the attack on protesting drivers, expressed happiness at being able to resume work “with minimal agbero disturbances.”
As stated below
“There are no longer any oppressive taxes. Compared to the N20,000 we previously paid, all we have to pay each day is a little under N2,500.
