In this Nigerian state, ASUU has declared an indefinite strike.

The action followed ASUU national’s approval for the Taraba state branch to go on strike to press its demands, as well as the state government’s denial that it owes workers salaries.

On Friday, the Taraba State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, declared a general and indefinite strike.

The action followed the national ASUU’s approval of the state branch’s strike action to press its demands and the state government’s denial of claims that it owes workers salaries.

According to the Union, the strike is based on the government’s failure to pay earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, and fractional salaries.

Mr Samuel Shitaa, the Taraba State University ASUU Chairman, confirmed that other reasons for the strike include the institution’s failure to implement agreements and the installation of perimeter fencing.

In response to ASUU’s action, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, Bala Dan-Abu, said in a press statement on Friday that the outgoing governor owed no worker salaries.
