A teacher, Peter Jacob, was sentenced to life in prison by an Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court for defiling a 9-year-old dyslexic student.
Justice Abiola Soladoye ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven the defendant’s defilement charge.
According to her, the prosecution witnesses’ evidence was cogent, compelling, and credible.
The judge ruled that the defendant’s and the three defense witnesses (staff from the school where the defendant worked) gave self-serving testimony.
“The defendant was observed to be unrepentant and unremorseful,” she said.
“When she gave her testimony, prosecution witness 1 (survivor) correctly identified the defendant.”
Her testimony was properly corroborated by the other three witnesses.
“The prosecution has successfully established the elements of the defendant’s offense.”
“The defendant is Godless, brutally wicked, lustful, and acting in an unseemly manner for a teacher.”
“I find him guilty of the charge and sentence him to life imprisonment.”
Soladoye stated that the convict’s name should be entered into the Lagos State s3xual offence register.
Mr Olusola Soneye, Mrs Olufunke Adegoke, and Ms. Abimbola Abolade from the prosecution team presented four witnesses and eight exhibits during the proceedings, while the defense team called four witnesses.
According to the prosecution, the convict committed the crime sometime in 2019 at Thescol College, CMD Road, Magodo.
Ikeja.
They claimed that the survivor, who had dyslexia, was in the primary school section of the school, which also housed Jacob’s secondary school.
The offense violated Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.
