A 27-year-old man was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defiling a nine-month-old baby in the state’s Railway Ijora Badia area.
Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, told reporters in Lagos on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, that the case was reported to the police by a concerned member of the public on Monday around 10:00 p.m.
According to Hundeyin, the suspect went to the apartment where the baby’s mother had laid her on the floor and then quickly left the compound to buy something.
“The suspect allegedly had sexual intercourse with the little baby and immediately fled the scene,” according to the PPRO.
“She is the mother of The baby’s mother, who is 16 years old, came to the station with the baby and was given a medical form that allowed her to take the child to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
“However, on Tuesday around 11:15 p.m., detectives from Ijora Badia Division smoked the suspect out of his hiding place.”
According to the spokesman, both the complainant and the suspect have made statements, and the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Hundeyin stated that when the police arrived, the scene of the crime was photographed, and a blood-stained pant was recovered as an exhibit. He stated that the case file and suspect would be transferred to the state command’s Gender Section.
