AY Makun, a popular stand-up comedian, addresses his long-running feud with his colleague Basketmouth, whom he accused of betraying him in 2006.
AY Makun stated that he was betrayed by his former colleague during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
He revealed that he once had a good relationship with Basketmouth, whom he credits with launching him to fame. They split up after a business transaction in which he felt cheated.
AY stated about their feud:
“In 2006, (Basketmouth) usually got gigs like weddings- multiple gigs on a Saturday, maybe two-thirds weddings.” So what he used to do at the time was go to one, then leave.
You will need someone else to stand in for you at the venue and catch up in the other venue. That is the opportunity I received from him, for which I am eternally grateful.
How Basketmouth betrayed me — AY confronts ex-colleague “Now, something funny happened. I got his approval to stand in for him on one of the jobs. Normally, we get N30,000 at that time, and 30,000 was everything to me at the time.
30,000 would buy me a pack of indomie, recharge cards, fuel for my 1 better pass my neighbor generator, and the opportunity to pay just one or two people to join me in performing one or two skits that I can do on my own.
quickly extinguished.
“I got this job, and people weren’t thrilled to see me around the venue because they were expecting a Basketmouth.” Long story short, the guy was pleased with his performance. There was a contact exchange. Then I walked away.
I haven’t run 30k in two weeks. Because I didn’t see the 30k, and I was starving in lponri, I decided to ask for 30K, and he said this person hasn’t remitted, this person hasn’t paid, you’re not happy because of this and that.
“And then I was like, ahahn… But shebi, you say you were impressed and happy with this person? Give my oga money na, and make my oga
Take care of me and everything. I don’t care if you pay Basket $100,000 for the job; my $30, 000 is my $30, 000.
“It was amusing to hear from them now, knowing that the full payment had been made long before the event.”
“I asked, ‘OK, is that the situation?'” So I forwarded this one’s message to this one, and the other way around. So they started fighting and stuff like that. I didn’t do it because I wanted to get to Basketmouth.
I did it because I was hungry, hustling, and needed to put food on the table.”
