Humphrey Anumudu, a Labour Party governorship candidate in Imo State’s upcoming governorship primary, has died.
He was discovered dead in his home.
After returning from a meeting at the LP secretariat in Abuja, Anumudu was found dead in his Lagos home.
The deceased was from the Mbieri Ancient Kingdom in Imo State’s Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
According to a family friend who spoke to The PUNCH on the condition of anonymity, the auto merchant died on Friday evening in Lagos.
He also stated that his death came as a surprise to him.
Anumudu was a multi-billionaire businessman turned politician who had been running for governor until his death.
Since 1998, it has served as the state’s capital.
He was said to have won the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary in the state in 1998, but the ticket was given to Achike Udenwa, who ruled the state from 1999 to 2007.
He had been running for the state’s number one seat ever since.
He was the Zenith Labour Party’s governorship candidate in 2019.
He was also a respected legal luminary and the Chairman and CEO of Globe Motors.
