Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s Council of Elders, has stated that there is no war between Igbos and Yorubas in Lagos State.
Iwuanyanwu, who made the announcement on Saturday at a ceremony in Anambra State to commemorate Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s one-year tenure, also condemned individuals he called political rascals for using ethnically charged rhetoric against Igbos in the state.
During the elections, particularly the governorship election last Saturday, there were targeted attacks on voters of southeastern descent.
“I want those in Lagos to understand that there is no war between us and the Yorubas.” They’re just political thugs, and we’ll deal with them,”
Iwuanyanwu explained.
“The elders have directed Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s secretary general, [Okey] Emuchay, to establish a commission of inquiry to determine what was destroyed; people will pay.”
The Igbo elder stated that he called a meeting of the Ohanaeze Council of Elders worldwide, who examined the events in Lagos on Wednesday.
“I want to tell you that people from our branches in America, Canada, Europe, London, and Nigeria who attended have resolved, and I want those from Lagos to go home and tell those in Lagos,” he said.
“We have resolved that we will never again allow anyone to take the life of an innocent person.” We’re all going to fight this person. Never, ever again!”
The Ohanaeze leader claimed that southeastern Nigerians were fellow Nigerians with “so much” invested in the country. “We are not going anywhere,” he said in response to rhetoric ordering Igbo sojourners to leave other regions.
