EFCC charges a company’s managing director in Abuja with a N12 million fraud

The managing director of Saphire Scents Limited, Adewale Aladejana, has been summoned to court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission brought him before Justice M. A. Madugu of the Federal High Court in Bwari, Abuja, for allegedly acquiring N12 million through fraudulent means.

On Tuesday, he was charged with three offenses that had to do with misappropriation and collecting money under false pretense. Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s spokesperson, announced this in a statement on Friday.

He said that, “specifically, he reportedly obtained the sum of N12 million from potential investors in his company, with the promise of turnover in six months, without offering any profit or repaying the invested cash to his investors.

” A single read, “That you Adewale Aladejana, Managing Director of Saphire Scents Limited, and Saphire Scents Limited in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this court, on or about the 16th day of September 2019, having received the sum of N4 million from one Anaetoh Obianuju for investment in Saphire Scents Limited, dishonestly misappropriated same and thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532 LFN read two times.

“That on or about the 9th day of April 2019, one patient Idu Ipenyi entrusted you, Adewale Aladejana, the managing director of Saphire Consult, with the sum of N4 million for investment in Saphire Scents Limited in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this court. You dishonestly misappropriated same and thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 311 at the Penal Code Act, Cap 532 LFN (Abuja) 1990 and punishable

When all the allegations were read to Aladejana, he, however, immediately entered a plea of not guilty. In light of his plea, the prosecution attorney, S. A. Ugwuegbulam, requested that the court set a trial date so that he could present his evidence.

However, the defense attorney, Eyitayo Fatogun, requested his client’s release on bail while the case is heard and decided. Justice Madugu granted Aladejana bail in the amount of N4 million and two sureties in the same amount, and the case was continued for trial to November 21 and 22, 2022.

Level 7 civil service officer having landed property under the court’s jurisdiction should be one of the sureties.

It is required that both sureties present a current form of identification, including their passport photos. As she exposed Aladejana for deceptive practices in March 2022, Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, a brand advocate for Saphhire Scents, publicly distanced herself from the company.
