Supreme Court dismisses LP and SDP petitions against Governor Oborevwori

Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State Governor, has won another Supreme Court win by dismissing the suit filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Kenneth Gbagi, for lack of merit.

In a unanimous decision on Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed all reasons and allegations brought against the March 18 gubernatorial election of last year.

Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, who delivered the lead judgment, said the charges that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Oborevwori, was ineligible for the election were absurd because there was no evidence to back them up.

Justice Lawal dismissed the contention that the election was unlawful and that the governor was not legitimately elected with a majority of the lawful votes cast.

In another decision, the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by the Labour Party (LP) and its governorship candidate, Ken Pela, as frivolous and without merit.

Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji, who delivered the lead judgment, stated that the petition was invalid since the appellants were unable to prove any of their assertions.

Justice Aba-Aji then dismissed the petition in its entirety.

According to the latest developments, all three appeals filed by the APC, SDP, and LP have been dismissed for lack of merit.
