With Friday’s dismissal of the suit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, the Supreme Court ended the legal struggle surrounding the Ogun State governorship election.
The Joint Appeal Filed by Oladipupo and the PDP with the Supreme Court was Dismissed for Lack of Merit.
The petition was rejected in the lead judgment issued by Justice Tijani Abubakar.
Justice Abubakar denied Adebutu and the PDP’s request for an edict compelling INEC to hold new elections in the 99 polling units where the previous ones were supposedly canceled.
Claims of election cancelation in 99 polling units were rejected by the court.
Contrarily, the Supreme Court ruled that the electoral body’s declaration of victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun, on March 18 was lawful.
Due to the absence of a heading, date, signature, or official name, Justice Abubakar concurred that the appellants’ papers, which claimed that 99 polling units had their elections canceled, were of no value as evidence.
After the Ogun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal had already rejected the case due to lack of merit, the court upheld their findings and conclusions.
