Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) directive requesting party details has been warned by Wale Adebayo, Osun Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC). Adebayo urged political parties in the state to ignore the decision.
On Wednesday in Osogbo, the council’s secretary, Tosin Odeyemi, released a statement in which Adebayo issued the warning.
Furthermore, he slammed the orders given to political parties on Tuesday by OSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye, who asked them to provide the commission with information about their parties.
According to the head of the Osun IPAC, the head of the OSIEC ought to have sought approval by following the due process before submitting the request.
“To get to know the party leaders and important people from each side, the chairman hasn’t convened a meeting.
Requests for party details are beyond the purview of OSIEC.
The statement went on to say that the Chairman and the political parties should meet as stakeholders.
If you remember from SAREWAHAUSA, Osun IPAC was opposed to Hashim Abioye’s appointment as OSIEC chairman.
The Osun IPAC isn’t the only CSO to take a stand on this topic; there are others.
According to their findings, Abioye was a registered voter in the state and a previous legal advisor to Governor Ademola Adeleke before being appointed chairman of the OSIEC.
In response to his nomination, Abioye asserted that he had resigned from the Osun PDP and the Ademola Adeleke cabinet.
Additionally, he claimed that the Osun State House of Assembly had checked him out and given him the all-clear.
