Ovey John, a member of the PDP, was reinstated as the lawful representative for Nasarawa State’s Keffi East Constituency in the NSHA, but the National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Lafia overturned his election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has already pronounced Ovey John the victor of the elections held on March 18.
The three-person tribunal, led by Justice Francisca Isong Nnang, issued their ruling on Sunday in Lafia. They found that INEC had made a mistake by pronouncing the PDP candidate the winner.
The INEC invalidated the results in four (4) polling units because Ovey’s lead, which stood at 1004 votes, was less than the total number of voters who were accredited in those units.
The Justice Francisca Isong Nnang-led Tribunal decided to rerun the election in four polling units within the constituency to resolve this discrepancy: Yarkade Primary School 003, Angwan Maiganga 014, Police Station 2, and Angwan Nepa.
