Excitement as Governor Otu reopens the Marina Resort in Cross River after a three-month closure

After being closed for months after a boating accident that killed three students, Cross River’s posh Marina Resort is now again bustling with activity.

In a statement released late on Sunday, Governor Bassey Otu announced the resort’s reopening and promised to bring it up to international standards.

The Slavery Museum and a dying movie theater at the Marina Resort closed on Saturday, June 24, according to SAREWAHAUSA.

This came after three medical students from Ahmadu Bello, Niger Delta, and Uyo were killed in a boating accident while on their way to Calabar for the University of Calabar’s annual health week.

Governor Otu, who was represented by Mr. Elvert Ayambem, Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, noted that in addition to completing extensive repairs at the resort, a gunboat was kept at the ready around the clock to increase security.

What we’ve accomplished here is spectacular; visitors looking to have a good time are already pouring in, and I’m relieved to see the military and police force on duty to keep everyone safe.

To the people of Cross River, he said, “Please add value and not destroy, learn to respect government policies which are for the good of everyone.”

Mr Ojoi Ekpenyong, managing director of the Cross River Tourism Bureau, expressed his satisfaction with the resort’s rebranding now that it has reliable power, a tidy setting, and willing staff members.

He invited guests from all around the state and beyond to come experience the resort’s amenities in a safe and peaceful setting.

A visitor named Dr. Fidelia Esu, who was there with her family, expressed optimism to NAN that the rebranded resort would return to its former glory.

It was an exciting period, and this resort was always bustling with individuals performing a variety of services for tips.

I still think that returning to our rural communities and picking up tourist activities there would be the best way to increase tourism in Cross River.

For rural areas, “we have a lot in our local communities that can attract tourists to the state,” Esu remarked.
