Ismail Omipidan, who served as Adegboyega Oyetola’s chief press secretary during his time as governor of Osun State, has said that the current administration’s claim that Oyetola abandoned the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) projects in Osogbo and Iragbiji is an attempt to mix politics and administration.
This is because, according to Omipidan, previous governor Oyetola turned over the locations of SDGs projects in the State to the appropriate authorities before he left office.
Omipidan said in a statement obtained by SAREWA HAUSA on Wednesday said it was absurd to accuse the Oyetola government of abandoning projects that were finished, equipped, and launched weeks before the end of its term.
How a government that took over in November 2022 could wake up 10 months later and say the projects were abandoned was a mystery to him. “The Oyetola administration after the inauguration of the SDG projects, handed over the Skills acquisition centres to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the hospitals to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital,” he said.
“The current administration is the one that should be blamed for dropping the projects,” he continued.
Omipidan claimed that since seizing power in November, the administration of Osun had done nothing, despite his claims that its members lack the competence and moral fiber to effectively manage the state’s affairs.
Ten months after the fact, you woke up and accused us of giving up on the projects.
“It is on record that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry now oversees the Skills acquisition centers, and the University of Osun Teaching Hospital now runs the hospitals. How can the current administration, which has taken such risky action, be accused of giving up on these initiatives?
The Iragbiji people, in particular, deserve praise for their diligence in ensuring the safety of the projects after donating their land to the government at no cost.
If these initiatives were located at Ede, the Governor’s estate, will they be scrapped by the government? Some of the medical equipment that was donated to Ila-Orangun General Hospital by an NGO has been shipped to Ede, where it will be used to outfit the General Hospital there. If the Governor was able to move the SDG projects out of Ede to Osogbo and Iragbiji, then “I’m tempted to believe that the government decided to abandon the SDG projects,” he stated.
According to a report by SAREWA HAUSA, the APC in Osun State has accused the Ademola Adeleke administration of wrecking the state’s economy and finances since taking office in November 2022. The accusation was made in a statement signed by the party’s chairman on Tuesday.
However, in a statement released by party chairman Sunday Bisi, the Osun Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defended the state government, arguing that the governor has been responsible with the state’s finances.
