The government of Nigeria has approved their AFCON 2027 candidacy

Nigeria’s bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations has received official support from the country’s federal government.

The two countries, Nigeria and the neighboring Benin Republic, have put forward a joint bid to host the event every two years.

John Enoh, Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, and other NFF officials will travel to Cairo, Egypt to attend the upcoming Confederation of African Football Executive Committee meeting to further the country’s campaign to host the tournament.

Nigeria will present to the CAF Executive Committee at this meeting.

The gathering will take place on September 27, 2023.

Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Sports Development, is a part of the Nigerian delegation alongside NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, bid coordinator Mallam Mainasara Ilo, and others.
