On Monday, APGA’s leadership denounced the rising insecurity in the southeast region and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to free Nnamdi Kanu.
For a long time, the DSS has held Kanu, the national leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement signed by APGA’s National Youth Leader Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu and released to the media in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, the organization’s leadership held Kanu’s continued imprisonment responsible for the region’s heightened sense of fear.
We call on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to exercise his good office and secure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release,” the statement reads in part. South Eastern Nigerians deserve better, if for no other reason.
The perpetrators of the ugliness in the South East have blamed the imprisonment of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. If their commander is released, then their criminal activities must come to a halt.
Even the traditionally peaceful IPOB’s activities have been taken over by extremists. Criminals in the South-East have used the calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s release as cover to carry out murders, kidnappings, and other acts of mayhem. He added that some politicians have used the unrest to cover their attempts to kill their political rivals.
It’s the young people who suffer the most. This group is the most sought after. They’re dependent on narcotics to function, and their terrible behavior and evil deeds have gotten them into a lot of trouble. Additionally, he said, “the region’s economy has been severely damaged, social life is essentially nonexistent, and drug abuse and peddling have become widespread among the youth.”
