Lagos PDP governor candidate Jandor disagrees with the verdict

Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran (aka Jandor), the PDP candidate for governor of Lagos in the 2023 general election, has challenged the tribunal’s decision.

Adediran’s challenge to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s re-election was deemed moot by the panel on Monday.

The court ruled that the petition was without merit because of the evidence presented to it.

Adediran had claimed that Sanwo-Olu was ineligible for the election because he was improperly nominated and sponsored by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adediran responded to the decision of the 3-person tribunal led by Justice Arum Ashom by issuing a statement through the JANDOR4GOVERNOR Campaign Organisation’s Head, Media and Communications, Mr Gbenga Ogunleye.

After the election, Adediran remarked, “it is quite unfortunate that the tribunal in its wisdom refused to accept the credible and convincing evidence presented by his legal team on the non-qualifications of the APC and the Labour Party candidates in the election.”

Adediran argued that the tribunal’s ruling on the matter of his fitness as a candidate for election did not accord with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act of 2022.

But he reassured people in Lagos that the Lagos PDP would review the ruling and figure out what to do next.

This is not the final step in the electoral process. We will review the ruling and act in the interests of the people of Lagos,” he promised.

The PDP in Lagos State issued a similar statement, saying that party strategists would review the court’s decision.

PDP Publicity Secretary for Lagos State Alhaji Hakeem Amode issued a statement saying that once the party received the Certified True Copy of the verdict, they would know what to do next.

In a statement, Amode stated, “We urge our dedicated supporters to remain calm and abstain from any activities that may disrupt the harmony and order of our society.”

When we receive the Certified True Copy of the judgment, as a party, we shall carefully study it and give clear instructions to our legal staff.

Our party is committed to advancing a more just and equitable society for the benefit of all its members, and we hold fast to the democratic principles upon which it was founded.

As a firm, “We believe the legal process is the appropriate avenue for addressing our concerns.”

He asserts that the party’s commitment to seeing the lawsuit through to a fair and legitimate conclusion has not wavered.

In the event that they are given the chance, “our party is steadfast in its dedication to serving the populace to the fullest extent,” Amode stated. (NAN)
