After manager Mikel Arteta brought in David Raya from Southampton in the offseason, former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel predicted that Aaron Ramsdale would depart Arsenal at the end of the season.
Ramsdale’s future at Emirates is in doubt after Arteta started Raya in wins over Everton and PSV Eindhoven.
Since joining Arsenal in 2021, Ramsdale has been the team’s primary goalie.
Many believe Arteta has settled on the Spain international as his permanent No. 1, despite his insistence that he will be switching between Ramsdale and Raya on a regular basis.
I thought from the moment they signed him [Raya] that they signed him to be the new no. 1, I don’t think you pay that much money for someone with one year remaining on their deal, I know he signed an extra contract and went on loan, but that was for other reasons,” Friedel said on talkSPORT.
It’s a tough one, but the coach has to make that call. I expect Ramsdale to follow in Matt Turner’s footsteps and look for a new home at the end of the current campaign.
