Ohanaeze begs Ndigbo on Igbo Day to pray for God to restore peace and security to the Southeast

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on the Ndigbo to petition God to bring stability to the Southeast.

Ohanaeze issued the call after denouncing the recent wave of violence in Imo State and elsewhere in the region.

The call was issued by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, in advance of this year’s Igbo Day celebration.

He also put his name to a statement that reads in part, “The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, decried the killings and bloodbath going on in Imo State and other places.”

Isiguzoro pleaded on Ndigbo to ask God to intervene and provide stability to the entire country, but especially the southeast and Imo State. The prayers of the Ndigbo would be heard, he said.

A Thanksgiving Service and Prayer Session was held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for the local Igbo community on September 23, 2023.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an Igbo socio-cultural organization, put on the event in advance of the Igbo Day celebration’s grand finale on September 29 in Port Harcourt’s Liberation Stadium.

A huge number of Igbo people attended the service, including delegates from Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Professor Thomas Amadi Ellah and the chairman of the Elders Forum, Prince Richard Ozobu.

Despite the insecurity and other obstacles “facing the Igbo people,” Professor Ellah said, “they had every reason to be thankful to Chukwu Okike Abiama (Almighty God) for His faithfulness and mercy.”

The fact that Ndigbo has been kept alive and well in places like Rivers State and Anioma in Delta State is something to be proud of, he said.
