Akeredolu has threatened to prosecute an APC leader for an attack on a commissioner

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was outraged on Monday when he learned that Olumide Awolumate, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 1, Akoko South West Local Council Area, had assaulted his Commissioner for Women Affairs, Olubunmi Osadahun.

Akeredolu condemned the attack as an insult to the government and made it clear that his administration will not stand for acts of violence in a statement released by Commissioner for Information Bamidele Ademola-Olateju.

You may remember that last weekend a video surfaced showing the disgraced ward chairman, also known as “Cuba,” brawling with the commissioner over the distribution of palliatives. https://dailypost.ng/2023/09/17/ondo-apc-ward-chairman-commissioner-engage-in-fisticuffs-over-palliatives/

Short video recordings show the APC leader striking Osadahun with a chair, causing her body and face to be injured.

Akeredolu promised to use the entire weight of the law to bring the perpetrator to justice.

“We would like to remind the general public that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition, VAPP, law provides maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and consequences for offenders by outlawing all types of violence against persons.

There are more effective ways to request changes or voice complaints.

“We will continue to do our best to reach the most vulnerable in our communities in terms of palliatives distribution, and we ask for your understanding and support in this endeavor.”

Meanwhile, people all around the state and beyond have spoken out against the assault on the commissioner.

There has been widespread demand for an in-depth investigation into what happened and for strong measures to be taken against those responsible.
