Femi Fani-Kayode, a powerful member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has criticized Olusegun Obasanjo for his role in the “humiliation of monarchs” in Oyo State.
An online video claims to show Obasanjo berating traditional rulers at a public gathering in Iseyin, Oyo State, on Friday for failing to recognize his presence and speak up on his behalf.
The ex-president was seen first ordering the Obas to rise up for him and then sitting down.
Yoruba stakeholders have responded to the news, calling Obasanjo’s move an insult to the traditional rulers.
To this, Fani-Kayode responded on his official X Twitter, saying he was “deeply saddened and utterly mortified” by Obasanjo’s action.
The ex-minister of aviation said Obasanjo spit in the faces of every indigenous Yoruba person with his actions, calling them “beyond jokes.”
Quote: “I am very disturbed and completely ashamed by the way in which former President Olusegun Obasanjo attacked our renowned traditional rulers in Oyo state and ‘ordered’ them to’stand up’ and’sit down’ as if they were toddlers.
“This is the same OBJ who once showed his respect, humility, and I daresay greatness by bowing, kneeling, and prostrating before our monarchs, even when he was President, but today he talks to them as if they are his garbage collectors and orders them to jump up and down like a molue driver to his beleaguered passengers and a motor park tout to a bunch of jobless and worthless underlings.
