Former finance commissioner and Governor Soludo were never at odds, according to a media aide

Mr Christian Aburime, the governor of Anambra, Chukwuma Soludo’s press secretary, has denied that Ifeajuna Onejeme resigned from his position as finance commissioner due to a disagreement with the governor.

Onejeme’s decision was prompted by personal issues, he said. “He did not have any beef with the Governor,” Aburime told reporters in Awka on Saturday.

His former commissioner was “a first class finance expert who worked harmoniously with the Governor and brought so much value to the administration,” he said.

The media aide claimed it was a sad moment when Onejeme’s departure was announced during the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

“Governor Soludo wrote the outgoing commissioner a personal letter of recommendation to thank him for his service.

“To suggest that Onejeme quit due to high-handedness or a dispute with Governor Soludo is false and misleading.

The former commissioner served the state for nine and a half years, and he claims that this has had a significant impact on his life and the lives of his loved ones.

The Governor “has high regard for excellent service which he exemplified,” and “there is no rift between him and Mr Governor,” he explained.

He reported that Soludo had already accepted Onejeme’s resignation and thanked him for his service over the previous 15 months.

Aburime reported that Soludo had said that he understood the familial issues that had led to Onejeme’s resignation.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Onejeme quit this week after being appointed finance commissioner last year.

He had previously held that position during Wilson Obiano’s tenure as governor.
