Mr. Zachary Nmaduka, a leader in the Labour Party (LP), was shot and killed in the Amelechi Akpukpa community in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, according to the Abia State Police Command.
Furthermore, the assailants took the victim’s severed head with them as proof that he had been beheaded.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, confirmed the development on behalf of the Command.
The following is an excerpt from the statement issued by the DPO Uturu Police division: “On September 13, 2023, at around 8:30 PM, the DPO Uturu Police division got discreet information concerning the regrettable murder of Hon Zachary Nmaduka, also known as Power Zack, M, a native of Ezieke Akpukpa Uturu who was 70 years old.
Mr. Nmaduka was brutally attacked by unknown assailants in a bar in the Amelechi Akpukpa neighborhood, where he was subsequently shot and beheaded.
When this shocking news came in, the police and the soldiers worked together to rush to the location.
They unfortunately found Mr. Nmaduka’s body.
Death scene photographs were taken, and the body was sent to Marist Mortuary Uturu as soon as possible.
The statement said that inquiries are still being conducted.
The murdered Nmaduka was reportedly a politician with a strong grassroots following who had spoken out against crime in some regions of Uturu territory.
He was also rumored to have worked as the Labour Party’s campaign director for the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the most recent election.
