The governor of Bauchi has pledged to conduct a comprehensive review of traditional ruler and district head compensation.

Sen. Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State, has decided to reevaluate the compensation of all emirs and amirs in the Bauchi Emirate Council.

Mohammed, who has vowed to better the lives of all state residents, has also expressed his strong regard for the state’s established institutions.

Thursday at the Government House in Bauchi, the governor addressed the State Council of Traditional Rulers.

In his words, “You have been managing our limitations and inadequacies as a government to provide for you, and that is why, when we came, we were building from where our predecessors had left off in terms of making sure that you have befitting accommodation, good transportation, and good remuneration.”

“It has come to my regret that the state was not providing you with some of the benefits to which you are legally entitled, namely with regard to the allocation of the state’s share of funds destined for local governments.

We didn’t start doing it on purpose, but we kept doing it because it was in the family. My eyes were awakened to the fact that you were being defrauded, and I immediately declared that the situation be changed.

You are not only responsible for your own well-being as Royal Fathers, but also for the well-being of the Emirates, the communities, and the community of Royal Fathers themselves, as well as the needs of the Royal Family as a whole, which are numerous, diverse, and substantial.

Therefore, a substantial amount of resources are required to continue providing the expected level of royalties. You are responsible for keeping up the air of nobility that they are meant to emanate, as you have been doing for quite some time now.

I can now say with confidence that the equitable distribution formula has been fixed and will remain unchanged. To better enable them to carry out their regal responsibilities, we will also review the compensation structure for District Heads and Village Heads.

This will divert their attention away from the tempting goods that the bandits and other unsavory characters will use to get them to compromise.

The delegation’s leader, Katagum’s Emir Alhaji Umar Farouq II, praised Mohammed for his vision and dedication to restoring the prestige of traditional rulers and institutions.
