Residents in Ogun county are pleading with the government to fix the crumbling road

After the collapse of the Odo Fufu road over the weekend, residents of Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewa South Local Area in Ogun State, have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun for help.

Once upon a time, there was a little bridge spanning the Fufu stream in Ilaro, making it easier for people and vehicles to go around town. This was especially useful for the students and faculty of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro.

Over the weekend, SAREWAHAUSA learned, the deteriorating bridge gave up completely after being hit by a downpour. Residents have subsequently closed the road to prevent vehicles from plunging into the stream, and they have appealed for assistance to both the state and federal governments.

The current condition of the Double Crown/Odo Fufu/Hosanna Bridge in Ilaro has further hampered the already difficult means of livelihood of commuters plying the road on a daily basis,” Jerry Kusoro, a local resident, lamented. They’ll have to get creative if they want to reach the rest of the city, and that’ll cost them time and money.

An ancient town native named Amos Oguns remarked, “I heard from a reputable source that Senator Adeola is trying to facilitate the rehabilitation of the road through the Ecological Fund. Our hope is that he can move things along quickly. The road is completely ruined, and we need help from the state government. You’re on a state highway.

Tunji Alabi, a senior citizen, recently made an appeal to the state administration about the impending school year.

If that road has to be closed because of its current condition, it will have an impact on students when classes resume. Students and staff who use that road to get to and from school would have to take longer detours. Remove the fuel subsidies and you can imagine the price tag. He pleaded with the state authorities to fix the road before classes resumed.

According to DAILY POST archives, in July 2023, a vehicle lost control and careened into the creek after a section of road collapsed due to severe rain.

Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun has promised to begin fixing the roads all around the state very soon.
