Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has signed legislation creating 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The law, which had already been passed by the state House of Assembly, now has the legal backing it needs to form the LCDAs.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Oladiji Olamide, delivered the measure to Akeredolu for his signature.
The creation of the LCDAs, according to Richard Olatunde, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, who confirmed the development in a statement issued over the weekend, is an important step in fulfilling the people’s hopes for enhanced grassroots development.
The governor, according to the state, has demonstrated an unrelenting commitment to improving public service delivery, and the introduction of LCDAs will bring governance closer to the people.
Governor Akeredolu remains committed to delivering significant projects and innovative ideas, and he is set to redouble his efforts to further the Sunshine State’s development.”
Meanwhile, the construction of the LCDAs had caused uprisings inside the state as a result of claims of marginalization leveled by various communities.
Furthermore, some communities reported that lands belonging to towns and villages were being leased to various local councils throughout the state under the pretense of establishing LCDAs.
