Jarigbe, a PDP candidate, has been declared the winner of the senate race in C’River North by a tribunal

In a unanimous ruling, the three-member election petition tribunal led by Justice M. A. Sambo has declared Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the PDP candidate, the victor of the Cross River North senate race.

After deliberating for five hours, the tribunal today in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, validated Senator Jarigbe’s election.

In case number EPT/CR/SEN/02/2023, the former governor of the state, Prof. Ben Ayade, had contested Jarigbe’s victory in court.

He had requested that the tribunal overturn the results of the senate election held on February 25, 2023 due to irregularities and violations of electoral law.

The former governor also challenged the results of the Senate election in roughly 377 precincts.

The panel ruled against Ayade, saying he did not present sufficient evidence to overturn the election’s results.

The petitioners’ presidential result sheet was specifically struck by the tribunal for being inconsistent with their sworn written declaration.
