Nguema, the coup leader in Gabon, frees the deposed president, Bongo

Military leaders in Gabon have lifted Ali Bongo’s home arrest.

The newly installed military government in Gabon has declared that the country’s democratically elected president is allowed to seek medical care abroad.

When it was announced that Bongo had been re-elected for a third term as president, the government of Bongo was overthrown.

General Brice Nguema, who led the coup, was sworn in as the country’s provisional leader.

Nguema is the cousin of Bongo and the late dictator’s personal bodyguard.

He was also in charge of the republican guard, the best soldiers in the country.

Nguema released Bongo from home arrest in a statement he signed.

In light of his current condition, former President of the Republic Ali Bongo Ondimba is free to travel, according to military spokesperson Ulrich Manfoumbi.

“If he so chooses, he can go abroad for medical examinations,” he continued.
