Akwa Ibom State’s governor, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed previous pledges to honor outstanding corps members with awards.
This was announced on Tuesday at the permanent orientation camp in Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, at the formal closing ceremony for the 2023 Batch B Stream 11 corps members.
The Governor, who was represented by Mr Emmanuel Akpabio, Director, Youths Development in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, said that the country needed young men and women who were loyal and patriotic in order to maintain national unity.
He encouraged the corps members to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit so that they could be employers of labor rather than job seekers, and he urged them to work toward mutual coexistence with the communities in which they serve.
We must not let those polarizing views shape how we tackle national issues, my fellow corps members, if we want Nigeria to become the country of our aspirations. I implore you, young Nigerians, to protect yourselves against stories that divide rather than build.
He was impressed by the recruits’ self-control during the training.
Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, NYSC State Coordinator, had already issued a warning to all NYSC members not to travel without proper authorization or at night.
Ekwe encouraged the corps members not to lose concentration and to avoid doing anything that could reflect shame on their schools, families, the NYSC, or the country.
She urged the corps members to follow the law, maintain order, and take safety precautions while they are there.
The post-camp training is the key to job development and self-employment, Ekwe told the corps members.
She emphasized the need of the corps members’ dedication to their primary assignment in order to succeed during their year of service.
