The 2022 World Cup was ‘rigged’ for Messi, a remark that has been criticized by Van Dijk. Van Gaal

Virgil van Dijk, captain of Liverpool, has denied rumors that FIFA plotted to ensure Lionel Messi of Argentina would win the 2022 World Cup.

Louis van Gaal, Van Dijk’s former national team manager, said as much.

The Netherlands’ coach in Qatar, Louis van Gaal, caused a stir when he suggested Messi and Argentina had the tournament arranged to win.

In the quarterfinals, Argentina beat the Netherlands on penalties.

Van Dijk, who appeared in that match, was consulted on the topic in light of the approaching international competitions.

“I heard it this morning, indeed,” Van Dijk said when asked about Van Gaal’s charges by Dutch outlet NOS.

“That’s it, by the way. Naturally, he thinks that way. One’s right to an opinion is universally acknowledged. I disagree with that point of view.
