Adebola Akin-Bright, 12, had her intestines mysteriously disappear, and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, has since denied any participation in the case.
The hospital responded to the allegations made by the boy’s mother, Deborah Abiodun, in a statement posted via X on Saturday and signed by hospital administration.
According to SAREWAHAUSA , she suffered a breakdown after learning that her son’s tiny intestines had been lost during hospitalization.
The hospital denied responsibility, citing its cutting-edge technology and the skill of its medical consultants as reasons why such a mistake could never happen again.
When a mother claims in a viral video that a private hospital and LASUTH are at fault for her son’s reported intestinal loss after surgery, hospital administration has been urged to set the record straight. Our hospital is a top-tier tertiary care facility staffed by exceptionally qualified doctors and other medical professionals.
We also have cutting-edge infrastructure. After undergoing two procedures at a private facility, the patient was referred to our facility, the statement said.
The administration also mentioned that video footage of the procedure were accessible for further clarity and avoidance of uncertainties, in addition to the fact that it was performed by an experienced paediatric surgeon and backed by her team of specialists.
Before we could do remedial surgery on him, he needed intensive optimization here at our center. During the procedure, a seasoned pediatric surgeon and her team made some peculiar discoveries. These intraoperative results are documented on camera. The mother was told the results, but she didn’t seem to believe them.
Our surgical team clearly performed a corrective procedure and did not deliberately remove any organs or tissues. We feel terrible for the patient’s loved ones. We agree that help with finances is needed from wherever it comes, but we don’t think that social media blackmail of the state government is the way to go about getting it.
Moreover, “the hospital management is cooperating with the state agency which is already investigating this rather unfortunate case,” the statement said.
