National Labor Union Issues Two-Day Strike Notice Over Citizen Distress

The Nigeria Labour Congress executive committee has settled on September 5th and 6th, 2023, as the dates for a warning strike.
The president of the NLC issued the threat on Friday in Abuja, saying that if the federal government does not act to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Nigerians, the union will mobilize its affiliates to go on an indefinite strike.
Ajaero stated that the decision was made following a meeting of the union’s National Executive Council in Abuja.
In addition to threatening a strike, NLC has also accused the federal government of interfering with the union’s business, specifically the NURTW.
Union members shared these sentiments, saying they were saddened by reports of widespread hardship in the wake of the fuel subsidy cut and frustrated that nothing could be done to help those in need.
Within 14 business days, or 21 days from now, we will begin a total and indefinite shutdown of the nation until the government takes action to alleviate the unbearable mass misery and widespread poverty that people are experiencing right now.
To show that we are prepared for the indefinite strike later in the month and to demand that the State vacate the illegally occupied National Headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), we will launch a two-day nationwide warning strike on September 5th and 6th, 2023.
“We also determined to launch a massive demonstration and rally in Imo State come September 2023 in advance of a big shutdown of the state to push the state government to cease the abuse and violation of the rights and privileges of workers and trade unions in the state.
“We are set to begin the shutdown of the operations of Airpeace Airline and other companies in the Aviation sector that are involved in serial violation of the rights of workers in the sector to freedom of Association and to collectively bargain and Organise,” Ajaero said on Friday.
