Senator Oyewumi praises the PDP’s “tactful handling” of the Wike scandal

Lere Oyewumi, the Senate’s Deputy Minority Leader, has said that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership is handling concerns about former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s behavior with tact.
Oyewumi, senator for Osun State’s Osun West Senatorial District, argued that removing somebody from the party was always a political move and that only the party’s top brass could make the proper call.
He disclosed this on Friday during a press conference in Ikire in response to reporters’ inquiries.
Prominent PDP chieftain and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under President Bola Tinubu Nyesom Wike has been the target of calls for his suspension.
On national television, a former adviser to PDP presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku in the 2023 general elections, Daniel Bwala, said that Wike will be ejected from the party when the time was right.
“Wike is our leader, one of the prominent leaders, the [former] governor of Rivers State, where PDP did wonderfully well in the last election,” Oyewumi countered. He was a PDP governor that attended every single event his party held.
I’m convinced the party leadership and the national working committee are handling Wike’s problems more effectively than he is.
“Removing anybody at times is taken out of proportion and politicised,” the author writes. “but I am sure people at the helm of the affairs of the party know the right decision to take at the right time, and they will continue to do that for the betterment of the party.”
