On Wednesday, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani raised alarm about ethnic and religious conflicts in the state.

He also bemoaned the fact that all government actions or inactions were evaluated via religious and ethnic spectacles.

Speaking at a one-day reflection meeting on Kaduna’s peacebuilding direction organized by the Kaduna Peace Commission in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),

he said, “I manage a state where emotions run high at the slightest provocation or perception of injustice; the people are captives of their past, a past marked by incessant conflicts, bloodletting, hate, and distrust.”

According to the Governor, the State has had its fair share of ethnic and religious confrontations, but the intensity has significantly decreased, while fear of escalation due to land tussles remains high.

The Governor emphasized the importance of breaking free from the unpleasant past and jointly freeing themselves from the grip of conflict merchants and agents of retrogression.

He told the residents of the state that he would administer an inclusive government that would not marginalize any individuals or groups.

He also stated that he would chart a new course that would lead to a safe, peaceful, and affluent state.

“Aside from ethnic and religious tensions, we are now confronted with the destabilizing activities of bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminal elements,” he stated.

He stated that the State Government had been collaborating with Federal Security Forces to degrade criminal elements and make Kaduna towns safe for living and doing business, emphasizing that the war had been brought to the criminals’ habitation.
