Three days after being born, a baby in Anambra was saved from a pit toilet.

Three days after being delivered, a baby was discovered in a pit latrine in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Sunday, as reported on the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare of Anambra State’s Facebook page.

Nwaedoka Chidinma, a 20-year-old woman from Izzi, Ebonyi State, was reportedly the mother of the male child.

Esther Omesi, a farmer and Chidinma’s acquaintance, notified the proper authorities.

Omesi said that she was visiting Chidinma at the time of the incident.

On Sunday, after Chidinma had told her (Omesi) she was feeling ill and gone to the pit to relieve herself, she allegedly began acting strangely.

She said Chidimma dragged her feet and when she finally emerged there was blood streaming from her, so she called a nurse who checked her out and told her the baby had died.

Omesi claimed she believed Chidinma had a stillbirth, so she urged her to visit her parents and tell them the sad news.

Omesi further, saying that on Tuesday morning they heard a baby’s cry and immediately utilized a ladder to rescue the newborn.

Ify Obinabo, the Honourable Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, was taken aback when the mother and child were brought to her office following the event.

Chidinma was the recipient of her stern gaze as she asked, “Why would you, after passing through pregnancy, giving birth, and deciding to put the baby in the toilet? Why? After the weekend? “Why are you being so evil?”

The commissioner immediately issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest and ordered the baby to be brought to Awka’s Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, for medical attention.

Obinabo expressed her dismay at the frequency with which young women commit crimes and promised that the teen mother will face consequences.

She also said that Anambra State Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo would take the issue through to its conclusion because he has zero tolerance for such callous and despicable deeds.
