Operators of Point Of Sales (POS) and other shop owners along Ikot Ambang, Itak, and Ikot Efun in Akwa Ibom State’s Ibiono Local Government Area have breathed a sigh of relief following the death of one Wisdom Sunday Akpan, a notorious criminal and killer who terrorised the residents of the area.
Wisdom would kill his victims after robbing them of their cash and possessions in broad daylight until he was killed by members of the Command’s Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Team.
A National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member stationed in the state was slain in one of his operations after Wisdom robbed her of her money and phone.
Jesse Johnson, another victim, posted on her Facebook wall shortly after the news of Wisdom’s murder spread, detailing how she was stolen of her money, phone, and eventually shot by the same Wisdom at Ikot Ambang Junction when she came to withdraw money from a POS operator.
Jesse, who thanked God that she was alive to deliver the story, revealed that 16 pellets were taken from her body and that she still gets shocked at the smallest noise as a result of the incident.
She stated,
“His brief reign was filled with terror, agony, and pain; 8th July 2023, a day I will never forget in my life.”
“I traveled to Uyo on Friday, July 7, 2023, and returned home at 10:10 p.m.” Saturday morning, at 8:15 a.m., I decided to go to the market, but first stopped at the POS point to make a withdrawal. I greeted him and took out my ATM card to give him. The next thing I heard was ooooo.
“I heard gunshots and saw myself on the ground before I could run as everyone took to their heels.” Wisdom, the demonic animal, had gunned me down and was running towards me….To cut a long story short, with blood streaming from my back and arm, I rushed to the police station and then to Uniuyo Teaching Hospital.
“The next problem was a lack of bed space.” My brother was instructed to transport me to Anua Hospital. I’m literally panting for air, and this? How can I come to the hospital and die?
“Here I am, with pellets all over me, thirsty, on fire, and gasping for air.” All I could think was that I couldn’t die like a chicken, as my Pastor would put it.
“It required the prompt intervention of the State Police PRO, Odiko Macdon.” Thank you very much, Sir. I’m grateful.
“Here I am today, having had 16 pellets removed but still having others inside me.” I get electric shocks on and off. I have panic attacks if I hear a loud noise or hear a motorcycle. I’ve always been a survivor, and I know I’ll make it through this.
“I’ve received several calls about this boy’s death today, and all I can think about is my Pastor at Dunamis International Gospel Centre Uyo, Pastor Usman Samson, praying for me with the entire church and saying that his days were numbered.” Thank you very much, Jehovah!
“Many thanks to the PPRO, Odiko Macdon (for instilling faith in the Force in me).” I’m still right at home. I’m still in shock. Psychologically, I’m still recovering.
“I know God will perfect what’s left, and the last of the pellets will be released.”
Odiko Macdon, the State Police PRO, verified the lady’s statement, stating that she lived through grace and a stroke of luck.
He claimed that the command would keep the state safe.
According to authorities, Wisdom, the remains of a dangerous armed robbery group commanded by the late Malachi Uwem Friday, had slain around 13 people, including Nsikan Vincent Udo of Ikot Inua village at Ikot Efun junction, whom he killed and stole his new Q-link motorcycle.
Many of his targets, including POS operators and supermarkets, were forced to relocate for fear of not only being robbed but also being killed.
According to an eyewitness to Wisdom’s death, he (Wisdom) arrived to a store at the Ikot Ambang Junction to loot in the afternoon, unaware that roughly four SWAT on mufti operatives had positioned themselves at strategic points in the building.
The eyewitness, who identified himself as Ekemini, said Wisdom opened fire on the men as soon as he realized they could be cops, but the bullets did not penetrate.
