On Thursday, August 3, an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court sentenced 40-year-old Abdulai Lawal to the Kirikiri jail facility on charges of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his neighbor’s 3-year-old daughter.
The prosecutor, Olawunmi Osinbajo, previously informed the court that the crime was perpetrated by Lawal on July 25 in the Owutu neighborhood of the “Agric” neighborhood of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Osinbajo claimed the accused dragged the young girl, then aged three, from the sandbox and into his bedroom, where he then defiled her.
She went on to say that the child’s mother had gone looking for her daughter, shouting out her name in shrieks, and that the girl had eventually emerged from Lawal’s chamber, covered in blood.
Osinbajo said Lawa was arrested after the mother reported the incident to authorities.
According to the prosecution, Lawal’s crime was illegal under the current Lagos State criminal code.
The chief magistrate, A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, did not hear the accused person’s plea but instead sent the case file to the DPP in Lagos State for review.
Olagbegi-Adelabu further remanded the defendant to jail imprisonment pending the advice and set the next mention date for September 14, 2023.
