According to Manchester City icon Sergio Aguero, Lionel Messi chose Inter Miami over a move to Saudi Arabia so that he could be closer to his family.
Messi left Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for Inter Miami last month after turning down a record contract offer.
The attacker for Barcelona and PSG declined an invitation to Saudi Arabia to renew his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Aguero speculates that Messi joined Inter Miami because he was bored of playing at a high level and wanted to join a more relaxed squad.
With Leo [Lionel Messi] and Cristiano at the conclusion of this stage and many players in their 32nd and 33rd years, perhaps they are tired of the constant pressure to perform at a high level.
And in the other instance if he had been playing in Europe, obviously that the demand is different and so he can’t play his last years the way he wanted, which is to enjoy, right? So I think Leo opted for him and his family to be well and to be able to play as calm as possible.
When deciding between Miami and Arabia, I believe he choose Miami due to its more accessible location. There are a lot of Latinos in Miami, and I assume he also considered how easily his own family would settle there, whereas in Arabia things could be trickier. Aguero told Stake, “I think he saw nothing more than that.”
