Palliative Aid for Borno’s 1.8 Million Residents

On Monday, in response to the hardship caused by the elimination of the fuel subsidy, the Borno State Government began a large-scale palliative distribution of food and non-food items.

The State Governor, Babagana Zulum, announced at the initiative’s flag-off event in the Muna junkyard neighborhood of Maiduguri that it will benefit 300,000 households with an average of six persons.

According to Zulum, the campaign was launched because of the current economic difficulties brought on by the removal of subsidies on petroleum items.

He explained, “We are doing this food distribution in line with the federal government’s rolled-out palliative meant to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal on the vulnerable citizens.”
