Tinubu Must Be Open About Fuel Subsidy Abolition

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has called the government led by President Bola Tinubu to be upfront and honest about the elimination of gasoline subsidy and the money it generates.

#PeterObiOnParallelFacts Twitter Space debate hosted by The Parallel Facts, the ex-governor of Anambra State took the lead on this issue.

For the country to move past its current difficulties, the former governor of Anambra State said the criminal component of fuel subsidy must be dealt with firmly.

He went on to say that if he were president, he would cut subsidy payments in half and redirect the savings to areas like healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

In addition to eliminating the illegal element, he promised to cut subsidies by half.

If we do this, the true number will become clear. You need to be really forthright and honest.

The money saved by eliminating subsidies will be put toward improving the nation’s healthcare system, public schools, and transportation networks.

You may remember that on May 29 Tinubu announced the elimination of fuel subsidies, stressing that his government would not be subsidizing fuel in any way, as this expense had not been factored into the 2023 budget.
