Motorcyclists who cover their heads, faces, and noses with hoods or face masks have been warned to stop doing so by the Osun State Police Command.
This was announced on Monday to reporters in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, by Yemisi Opalola, the command’s official spokeswoman.
According to information acquired, the warning was deemed necessary after police received reports of criminal activity involving commercial motorcycles often referred to as Okada riders.
The statement read, “These commercial motorcyclists use hoods with the intent to commit crimes such as robbery, rape, etc. on innocent citizens, especially their passengers during the night, whose identities will not be easily ascertained.”
“The decision was taken by the command to curb the criminal activities involving the use of motorcycles in the state,” Opalola added.
She also urged the state’s okada riders’ association’s leadership to issue a warning to its members about the dangers of wearing facial coverings while on the road.
“The command has plans and strategies on how to arrest and prosecute anyone who acts against the rules,” the police official added.
Opalola pleaded with the public to reject the services of any commercial biker who wore a hood or facemask.
