On Tuesday, the Edo State High Court in Benin City found truck driver Christopher Godfirst and six others guilty of online fraud and sentenced them to prison.
Raymond Imozemhe (who posed as the famous Hollywood actor Tom Cruise), Christian Okafor, Jimmy Emmanuel, Oritseweyinmi Allen Poto, Osapamwan Destiny Gaius, and David Oghneyerivwo Ighere were among the other defendants sentenced by Justice Efe Ikponwonba.
Their conviction and subsequent sentencing stemmed from their participation in online fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Command received confessions from the defendants and thereafter arraigned them on a single count concerning false impersonation and possession of bogus papers.
To the Federal Government of Nigeria, the judge further ordered the forfeiture of a Mercedes-Benz GLK 350, one black Toyota Camry, a Lexus ES 350, mobile phones, and a UBA draft for N960,000, all of which were determined to be the proceeds of crime.
