Working Hours Won’t Be Cut, Says FG

The federal government has no plans to decrease work days in response to the rise in the price of gasoline caused by the elimination of subsidies in the sector, according to Folasade Yemi-Esan, head of the Service of the Federation.

  1. On Tuesday, Yemi-Esan spearheaded this discussion with media executives in Abuja as part of events commemorating 2023 Civil Service Week. The event’s theme was “Digitalization of Work Processes in the Public Service: A Gateway to Efficient Resource Utilization and National Development.”

The current administration is reportedly working on palliatives that will sustain civil servants and all Nigerians, as mentioned by Yemi-Esan.

Despite the increases in PMS and transportation costs, she stated, “We don’t have any plans to reduce working days for civil servants.” However, a group has been formed to investigate this.

Committee members are seeking to secure gas-powered buses for use in transporting government workers. In addition, we’re making progress on converting some vehicles from PMS to gas. Equally under scrutiny is the minimum wage.

She reported that 69,854 officers from all six geographical zones had been accounted for during the ongoing verification operation for civil officials across the MDAs.

According to the head of service, the purpose of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Personnel Information System verification exercise was to get rid of phantom workers while keeping the legitimate ones on the payroll.

She also said that the exercise in verification had resulted in the suspension of officers after the discovery of 1,618 fraudulent or otherwise improper employment letters.
