Waliu Olamilekan, a 39-year-old gas station worker, has been charged with theft of N3,464,000 from the BFO filling station in Badagry, Lagos State.
The defendant of unknown whereabouts is being tried on three counts of unauthorized entrance, criminal mischief, and theft.
Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, for the prosecution, said that the crimes were perpetrated by the defendant on July 9 at around 11.30 a.m. at Pipeline, Araromi-Ale, Badagry Expressway, Lagos.
According to Adeosun, the defendant broke into the station manager’s office and stole the money from the complainant, Mrs. Titilope Falola.
He broke the bulk room window, the Manager’s office drawer, and caused N45,000 in damages to the burglary window.
The defendant also took money from BFO Filling Station, valued at N3, 464,000 million.
The stolen funds were found in his hiding place by the police.
His official statement was as follows: “The offenses violate Sections 307, 339, and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
Mr. T.A. Popoola, the Magistrate, set bail for the defendant at N1,000,000 with two equal sureties.
Popoola stipulated that one of the guarantors provide documentation showing that they had a N1m bank account as well as proof of residency for the past three years.
She set the case for mention on August 21.
