The Driver Responsible for Killing a Policeman at the Ondo Checkpoint Has Been Apprehended

Ondo State Police Command officers have apprehended the driver who they say ran over and killed a police officer on Sunday in the Ifon neighborhood of Ose Local Government Area, along the Benin-Owo Expressway.

The officer, an assistant superintendent, was allegedly struck by a driver whose identity has not been released by the authorities.

The Nigerian soldiers in Sobe, Edo State, eventually apprehended the thed.

The leadership also refuted rumors that the police officer had been shot and killed by highway kidnappers.

Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state’s police public relations officer, verified the officer’s death and said the incident was the result of a hit-and-run rather than a kidnapping.

She stated, “The cops tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. On the highway, our officers were warned, but when they arrived at a specific location near ifon, the motorist veered and fatally struck an ASP.

“The driver, was, however, pursued, and, fortunately for us, he (driver) was arrested by the military men at Sobe in Edo State.”
