For defiling a 4-year-old girl in Abia, a 37-year-old HIV+ man will spend the rest of his life in prison

Chiemela Victor Ekeke, 37, was sentenced to life in prison by a Magistrate’s Court in Umuahia, Abia State, for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl.
On Friday, July 7, 2023, an incident occurred on Eze Ogbulafor Street in Umuahia, Abia State.

Ekeke, a laborer and farmer from Ndioru in the state’s Ikwuano Local Government Area, admitted to being HIV-positive but claimed that his doctor had “flushed” his viral load away.

The Presiding Magistrate, N. Lekwa, stated in her judgement that the court had previously found Ekeke guilty of child defilement.

The prosecution praised the court’s judgment as being in accordance with the law on child defilement.

Prior to his life term, Ekeke was released on a conspiracy charge, while a second defendant was acquitted due to inadequate evidence linking him to the crime.

Ekeke admits to having carnal knowledge of the minor but asked for forgiveness.

According to sources, Ekeke crept into the girl’s parents’ home after the mother had gone out to fetch some groceries.

He took the tiny girl into one of the building’s rooms and violated her and injured her private parts.

A neighbor who observed him enter the residence quickly recognized him, which led to his arrest.

During the crowd’s interrogation, the suspect denied defiling the young girl, claiming that “I only carried her in my laps and touched her in the genitals.”

He also claimed to have come to repay a N3,000 loan owing to someone in the yard.

Ekeke was then given over to the Police for inquiry and prosecution after blaming the devil for his terrible behavior.
